Sourced figures: prices in the table carry their source and check month. Fees and fares change, and they are third-party figures, not our offers.

The cost of a Komodo family trip is the sum of lines that scale differently: park entry per person per day, harbour and guide charges, a boat priced per person or per boat, then flights, visas, insurance and tips. Child rates conflict between operators, so compare itemised totals in writing and not headline prices.
Which costs apply to every family member?
Start by sorting each line by what makes it grow. Some rise with every person and every day, some with the boat, and some only if a child dives. Most amounts sit in the price table on this page, and the scuba charge is listed on our kids scuba diving in Komodo page. The table below shows how each line scales. Set these lines against the wider Komodo family trip plan, because the days in your Komodo family itinerary multiply most of them and the Komodo family cabins you choose set the boat line.
| Budget line | How it scales | Who states it | What to check for a family |
|---|---|---|---|
| Park entry | Per person, per day | Park tariff | Days inside the park multiply it; the tariff shows no child line |
| Scuba activity charge | Per diver, per day, on top of entry | Park tariff | Applies only to those who dive; Asik Travel says snorkeling is included in the park ticket |
| Guiding | Per group of five | Park authority page | Licensed cooperative KSU Taman Nasional Komodo, at Resort Loh Buaya on Rinca and Resort Gililawa only; ask about other sites |
| Harbour fee | Per person; per day on day trips, once on liveaboards | Ocean Earth Travels | Some operators include it, others list it separately |
| Boat | Per person or per boat | The operator | Which basis, and how children count |
| Visa on arrival | Per person, single entry | UK government | Paid in rupiah by cash or card; check your own nationality |
| Crew tip | Per guest, per day | Asik Travel | Customary and not in the cabin price; your choice |
Flights and insurance complete the per-person group. One line should cost nothing: UK government guidance describes the All Indonesia arrival card as a free online form, due within 72 hours of arrival, and warns about websites that ask for money. With several passports to process, that warning is easy to miss.
What does the park itself charge?
The park's published tariff, issued under Government Regulation 36 of 2024, is the check for every estimate you receive. It separates domestic tourists, domestic student groups of at least five, and foreign tourists. Households with mixed passports should ask how each person is registered, since Indonesian and foreign lines differ. The same page links to SiOra, the system that registers bookable entry, and warns that purchased tickets can be neither cancelled nor refunded.
Where to buy is unsettled. The park's homepage FAQ names the Komodo Visitor Center in town as a place to buy. Casa de Capulet, a local hotel, reports SiOra as the sole channel from April 2026, with nothing on sale at the harbour. Ask whoever registers your family which route they used.
Operators estimate the park bill differently. Labuan Bajo Tourism, an operator, publishes an average per foreign visitor on its cruises, and Neptune Liveaboards, another operator, tells families to budget a noticeably higher figure per head. Neither should replace your own sum from the tariff.
Do children pay less?
That is two questions, and both have conflicting answers in print. Ask your boat for both.
| Question | Source | What it says |
|---|---|---|
| Park ticket | Komodo Resort FAQ | Children aged 0 to 6 do not pay |
| Park ticket | Neptune family guide | Levied per person regardless of age in most cases; the lower fee applies where the park gives one |
| Park ticket | Go Live Young, 2017 | Reported no child prices |
| Boat rate | Komodo Resort FAQ | Infants up to 2 on request at a set nightly rate; 3 and older charged as adults less 20 percent |
| Boat rate | Neptune family guide | Many operators reduce rates for junior guests by 10 to 25 percent |
| Boat rate | Neptune snorkeling guide | Children pay adult rates on its boats; it cites the harbour master's passenger manifest |
Neptune's two pages disagree with each other, which shows how little a general statement is worth here. Until a quote says otherwise, budget each child at the full adult figure and treat any reduction as a saving. Age thresholds, which decide whether a child can board at all, are on our page about Komodo age rules.
How does per-boat pricing change the sums?
Per-person pricing rewards small families, and per-boat pricing rewards bigger parties. Labuan Bajo Tourism says its private charter is priced per boat and names families among those who book it. The test is simple: multiply the shared per-person price by your headcount, compare that with the charter price, and then add the per-person lines from the first table to both sides, because park entry and harbour fees follow people and not boats.
The price table on this page holds a Family Suite sold per person on a shared boat, a whole-boat charter, and Neptune's worked example for a family of four. These use different bases and different trip lengths, so do not read them as a ladder of one product. For a quick view of the market, the family-friendly page for Komodo on GetYourGuide, a marketplace, lists speedboat day cruises and a four-day private boat tour. Our guides to private or shared boats for families and Komodo family boats deal with the non-financial side of that choice.
What does the arithmetic look like for a family of four?
Run the multiplication before you compare anything. Four people spending three days in the park have twelve person-days of entry to account for, and fewer only if a child line is confirmed in writing. The harbour rule from Ocean Earth Travels, a travel company, opens a real gap between trip types: two separate day trips mean eight harbour charges for the same four people, while one liveaboard means four. A single diver on two dive days adds two scuba charges, and nobody else pays them if Asik Travel, an operator, is right that snorkeling sits inside the park ticket.
Guiding counts differently. The park authority's charge is per group of five, so four people fit one group at Loh Buaya or Gililawa, while a family of six may be counted as two. Ask how the seller counts. Tips are suggested per guest per day, and whether a small child counts as a guest is your call.
Neptune's worked example in the price table makes a fair reality check, with one catch: it covers five nights on a mid-range boat in late June and includes one junior dive course. Take out what does not apply to you before setting it beside a three-day quote. Hotel nights in Labuan Bajo before and after the boat are a further line that none of these sources prices for families, so add your own figure.
What is usually left out of a boat price?
One operator's list makes a useful template. Labuan Bajo Tourism's cruise fare takes in the cabin, meals, drinks, city harbour transfers, snorkeling gear, paddleboard, canoe and guide; park fees, flights, insurance and alcohol fall outside it. Another boat splits those its own way. Neptune notes that fees are built into some headline prices and invoiced separately on other boats, which is why two quotes can look further apart, or closer, than they are.
The easiest line to underbudget is medical cover. UK government advice is to make sure a policy pays for local treatment and an unexpected medical evacuation. Vaccines add a clinic visit for each child, as our page on malaria and vaccines for Komodo with children explains. komodoislandcruises.com, an operator and not a medical authority, describes the Labuan Bajo hospital as limited, with serious cases sent on to Bali or Singapore, and calls evacuation cover non-negotiable. Our page on hospital care in Labuan Bajo for families looks at this in more depth.
How do you get a true Komodo family trip cost?
Ask every seller the same questions in the same order, then compare totals and not headlines.
- List each traveller with age on the departure date and passport nationality.
- Count the days inside the park, because entry is charged by the day.
- Ask for a quote with one line per item in the first table, and for each line, whether it is included, invoiced later or payable on the day.
- Have each child's boat rate and park ticket treatment stated by name.
- Check the park lines against the official tariff yourself.
- Ask what happens to your money if the boat does not sail, remembering that park tickets are non-refundable.
- Get the all-in number, as Neptune advises, before you pay anything.
What do families ask most about Komodo costs?
How much does a Komodo family trip cost?
No single figure holds, because the total depends on headcount, days in the park and whether the boat is sold per person or per boat. Neptune Liveaboards publishes a worked example for a family of four, shown in the price table on this page.
Do children pay full price on Komodo boats?
Sometimes. Published policies run from adult rates, through reductions of a stated percentage, to a set infant rate, and they differ even between related companies. Budget at the adult figure until your quote names the child rate.
Are park fees included in Komodo boat prices?
Not reliably. Labuan Bajo Tourism lists park fees as extra on its cruises, and Neptune Liveaboards says some boats fold fees into the headline price while others invoice them. Ask for it line by line.
What costs do families forget in Komodo?
Crew tips, harbour fees charged per day on day trips, alcohol, insurance with evacuation cover, and clinic visits before travel. A family with a diver also pays the park scuba charge for each dive day.
Do kids need a Komodo National Park ticket?
Budget for one until a written quote says otherwise. The tariff has no child category, and operators disagree on whether young children pay.
Which published prices did we check?
Official park fees and public third-party listings, each with its source and the month we checked it. These are not our prices or offers. Fees and fares change, and sources sometimes disagree, so check the source before you rely on a figure.
