By Komodo Family Trip Editorial Desk
You can reach us on two channels only: WhatsApp and email, both listed at the end of this page. Send your children's ages, swimming ability, rough dates and group size, and the desk can answer questions about boats, walks and planning. Park rules belong with the park authority, and emergencies belong with local services.
Which Komodo Family Trip contact channel should you use?
Use whichever suits you, and ask about a Komodo family trip at any stage, even before you have dates. The WhatsApp line is handy for short back-and-forth questions, such as checking which page answers something or adding a detail you forgot. Email is easier for longer messages, for forwarding an operator's quote you want to understand, or for keeping a family's notes in one thread. Please use one channel per question, so that nothing gets answered twice or in two different ways.
These are the only two contact points for this site. If someone else messages you claiming to be this desk and asks for a payment or for passport copies, stop and check with us through the details on this page first.
What can the desk help with?
The Komodo Family Trip request desk is attached to a travel guide. It is useful when you are comparing options and want to know what a family should ask. Typical requests:
- Listing what each trip type asks of a child, so you can decide between a day trip, a shared boat or a whole boat.
- Reading an operator's quote and spotting what it leaves out, such as park charges or transfers.
- Checking what a boat's own age rule means for a younger sibling. The Komodo age rules page is a good first read.
- Pointing you to the right part of this guide. Common quick questions are collected on the family FAQ.
- Looking into options with third-party suppliers when you want to move from reading to booking.
The desk cannot do some things, and it helps to know them early. This guide is not a government body and runs no departures, as the about page explains. It cannot issue park permits, give medical or legal advice, or tell you what suits your child. That decision stays with you as parent or guardian. It also cannot promise that a boat, cabin, date, walk route or dragon sighting will be there for you.
A request can end in a paid booking, which gives us a commercial interest. Weigh what you hear with that in mind, and compare it against the sources linked on each page.
What details speed up an answer?
The more of this you send in the first message, the fewer questions come back. You do not need all of it, and none of it needs to be final.
- Each child's age. Exact ages matter, since age rules differ by boat and a limit can fall between two siblings.
- Swimming ability. Say whether each child swims unaided, swims with a float, or has not swum in the sea. Comfort with a mask and snorkel helps too.
- Walking stamina. A rough idea of how long each child walks without being carried is enough.
- Rough dates. A month or a range is fine at first. Mention school holidays if you are tied to them.
- Group size. Say how many adults and children, and whether grandparents or friends are travelling too.
- Medical or mobility notes. Share only what bears on the trip, such as seasickness or a condition that makes steps hard. You decide how much to tell us.
- What you have already seen. A link or a quote saves everyone time.
Passport details can wait until you are close to a booking. Do not send them with a first question. According to Casa de Capulet, a Labuan Bajo hotel with a tour desk, each visitor is registered by name for a date and timed session, everyone travelling has to supply passport details, and a misspelled name cannot be corrected once registered. When that stage comes, copy names exactly from the passport, children's names included.
A first message might read: "Two adults, children aged 6 and 10. The 10-year-old swims well, the 6-year-old uses a float. Thinking of late September, five or six days. Is a shared boat realistic for us, or should we look at day trips from Labuan Bajo?"
Who answers park rule questions?
The park authority does, because it writes the rules. Komodo National Park is managed by Balai Taman Nasional Komodo, under Indonesia's conservation directorate, and its office is on Jalan Kasimo in Labuan Bajo. Current phone and email details are on its official site. Our own summary of a rule is a reading of that site and has no official standing, so where a rule decides whether you travel, get it from the source.
| Your question | Who to ask |
|---|---|
| Park rules, protocols and closures | Balai Taman Nasional Komodo |
| Entry registration through SiOra, linked from the park's fee page | The park authority, or the operator registering you |
| A boat's age limit, cabins, sailing approval and life jackets | The boat's operator, in writing |
| Vaccines, malaria prevention and medicines for a child | A doctor or travel clinic |
| Entry rules for children and passports | Your embassy and Indonesian immigration |
| Comparing options and reading a quote | This desk |
What should you ask any boat before you pay?
Whoever you book through, get three answers first. Asik Travel, an operator, suggests asking whether the boat sails between islands only in daylight, whether it holds the harbour master's sailing approval for your day, and whether it carries child-size life jackets for every child. Those are fair questions for us too. If an answer matters to you, ask for it in writing and keep it with your booking papers.
What happens after you ask?
Someone on the Komodo Family Trip desk reads your message and replies with an answer, a follow-up question, or a link to the relevant page. Replies depend on who is working and on what your question needs, so we do not quote a response time. If your travel dates are close, say so at the top of the message.
A question commits you to nothing, and an answer commits nobody to anything. Should you want to go further, the sequence is:
- You describe the family and the dates.
- The desk asks suppliers what they can do, and may come back to say that nothing fits.
- If something does fit, you receive a written offer stating the price, any fee, and the company that contracts with you.
- You read it, ask questions, and decide. Nothing binds until you accept a written offer.
Anything said in a chat about a boat, a date or a price is a discussion. Only the offer counts.
Who do you call in an emergency?
Do not message this desk in an emergency. For an ambulance in Indonesia, the UK government lists 118. Find out before you sail who on board deals with injuries and how they summon help. Save your insurer's emergency line and policy number on your phone before you leave home, and on a second adult's phone as well.
The same UK page advises making sure your policy pays for local treatment and an unplanned medical evacuation. Do both before you send any money for the trip.
What do families ask before contacting the desk?
What should I tell the desk about my children?
Send their exact ages, how well each one swims, how far each one walks, and anything that affects boat travel, such as seasickness. Share only what you are comfortable with, and keep passport details until a booking is close.
Is Komodo Family Trip the park authority?
No. Komodo National Park is managed by Balai Taman Nasional Komodo. This site is a travel guide with a request desk under Juara Holding Group, so rule questions should go to the park authority's own contact page.
Can the desk answer a question about my child's age?
It can explain what boats and operators publish and what to ask them. It cannot grant an exception to a boat's rule, and it cannot decide whether a trip suits your child. That judgement stays with you.
Does the desk run the boats?
No. The site does not own or operate boats, tours or rooms. If a request moves forward, the company that would contract with you is named in a written offer before you agree to anything.
Can the desk hold a date for my family?
Not from a chat. Asking a question does not reserve a boat or a date, and the desk does not promise availability. Dates and prices only become firm through an offer you accept.
