Sourced figures: prices in the table carry their source and check month. Fees and fares change, and they are third-party figures, not our offers.
This Komodo family trip FAQ gives short answers to the questions parents ask most, and says what kind of source stands behind each one. Where the park authority is silent or operators disagree, the answer says so. Each section links to the page that holds the evidence and the detail.
Which ages can go?
Is there a minimum age for the park? Source type: operators. Komodo Resort states that entry to the park has no official lower age limit, and Hello Flores says liveaboards face no park-wide one. No statement from the park itself is available in either direction, so treat this as operator knowledge and not as park policy. For the order in which to decide things, start with our guide to a Komodo family trip.
So who sets the limit? In practice the boat does. Hello Flores puts the usual boat-by-boat limits somewhere from 5 to 10 years old. A boat's written child policy therefore matters more to you than any general rule, and two boats in the same harbour can give different answers for the same child.
What age suits the dragon walk? Komodo Resort reports that guides tend to suggest 5 to 6 as the starting age for dragon walks. That is a rule of thumb from a seller, not a ranger requirement. A full breakdown by age sits on our page about age rules in Komodo.
Which fees apply to children?
Do children pay park tickets? Operators give opposite answers, so get your own quote line. The park's published tariff has three visitor lines (domestic tourist, domestic student group of five or more, foreign tourist) and none for a child or infant. Silence in a table does not prove that no exemption exists. Komodo Resort's liveaboard FAQ exempts children up to age 6, Neptune Liveaboards, an operator, says fees usually fall on each person whatever their age, and a family blog from 2017 found no child prices.
How much weight do those two operators carry? Komodo Resort and Neptune Liveaboards are sister companies, per the Komodo Resort FAQ, so count them as one group, not as two separate voices. Here they do not even agree with each other, which is a good reason to get the child line confirmed in writing before you pay.
What is the published visitor rate? Source type: official. The per-day rate for foreign visitors, set under Government Regulation 36 of 2024, is in the price table on this page. The tariff does not label it an adult rate. Our Komodo family trip cost page shows how the other charges build on it.
Which health steps come first?
What should come before booking a boat? A travel clinic. Source type: health authority. The US CDC counts both Labuan Bajo town and the Komodo Islands as malaria transmission areas. Timing, vaccines and questions for the clinician are on our page about malaria and vaccines for Komodo with children.
Is there a hospital nearby? Source type: company filing, with one conflict. First REIT, which owns the property, lists emergency rooms, an ICU, a neonatal ICU and paediatrics at Siloam Hospitals Labuan Bajo, open since January 2016, and says no other hospital serves the regency. Indonesian police reports from the August 2026 earthquake also name a second one and describe patients being moved out to tents. The current status of both is unconfirmed, and so is whether a paediatrician is available on a given day, so ask.
Who runs the park and how is entry booked?
Who runs the park? Balai Taman Nasional Komodo, under Indonesia's conservation directorate. The park authority says the area was designated on 6 March 1980, among the country's first national parks. Its FAQ also rules out exploring without a guide, since dragons live across nearly every main island, so families should expect a guide on any walk.
How is entry booked now? Source type: hotel. According to Casa de Capulet, a Labuan Bajo hotel, an operator enters each visitor by name under a date and a timed session. A spelling slip, it adds, stays there once registered, so check each child's name against the passport before you send it. Our Komodo safety with kids page covers why closures can also change a booked day.
What should you ask a boat?
What is the first question? Ask whether it carries life jackets that fit your child, today, in the size you need. Source type: government. The UK government warns that a child's jacket cannot be assumed in Indonesia and that families may have to pack one.
Is paperwork enough? No. Divernet reported that on 13 October 2026 KM Feronia overturned off Tatawa Island with surface conditions reported as relatively calm and its required sailing documents in order, while police were still investigating. Our list of boat safety questions goes further than documents.
How dangerous are the dragons by comparison? Source type: encyclopedia, using old park data. Wikipedia counts attacks only as far as 2012 and says the people hit were mostly local villagers. No newer official tally is available. We list boats ahead of dragons as an editorial judgement, because the recent dated incidents on our safety page mostly involve boats.
When is the sea calmest for children?
Four operators give four different windows, shown below. Source type: operators, each selling trips in the months it names. Calm months do not rule out closures.
| Source | Months it calls calmest |
|---|---|
| Hello Flores | Mar to Jun, then Sep to Oct |
| Asik Travel | Apr to Oct |
| Neptune Liveaboards | May to Oct |
| komodoislandcruises.com | May, Jun, Sep, Oct |
The list from komodoislandcruises.com, an operator, is the narrowest and falls inside the other three. That is our reading of their lists and no forecast, and it says nothing about a particular week.
Which published prices did we check?
Official park fees and public third-party listings, each with its source and the month we checked it. These are not our prices or offers. Fees and fares change, and sources sometimes disagree, so check the source before you rely on a figure.
| Item | Published price | Source | Checked |
|---|---|---|---|
| Komodo National Park entry, foreign visitor, per person per day (park tariff; no child category shown) | IDR 250,000 | tnkomodo.ksdae.kehutanan.go.id | Nov 2026 |
What else does this Komodo family trip FAQ cover?
Can babies go to Komodo?
The park has said nothing we can cite either way. Whether a boat accepts a baby is that operator's decision, and advice differs. Sassy Mama, a family publisher, favours a carrier over a stroller once you leave downtown Labuan Bajo.
Can a 5 year old go to Komodo?
The boat decides. Komodo Resort, an operator, reports guides suggesting 5 to 6 for dragon walks, while Hello Flores, another operator, gives 5 to 10 as the usual span of liveaboard limits. Confirm the boat's own limit before planning around it.
Do I need malaria tablets for Komodo with children?
Ask a clinician, who decides whether, which and how much for each child. The US CDC, a health authority, advises prescription malaria prevention in parts of Indonesia, and this area is on its list. An operator's view cannot replace that conversation.
Is Komodo open after the earthquake?
On a page dated 1 September 2026, Komodo Resort, an operator, reported no closure of the park during the magnitude 7.7 earthquake of 15 August 2026. That is not an official notice and it can date quickly, so confirm current status close to your trip.
Can we buy Komodo tickets at the harbour?
Sources conflict. The park's official FAQ says tickets can be bought at the Komodo Visitor Center in Labuan Bajo, while Casa de Capulet, a hotel, says that since April 2026 tickets only come through SiOra with no office at the harbour. Ask your operator how your tickets will be issued.
What documents do children need for a Komodo boat?
Plan on a passport for every child. Casa de Capulet, a hotel, says passport details are needed for all travellers at registration. UK advice for British citizens asks for 6 months' validity, 2 blank pages and offers a 30-day visa on arrival. For a child travelling with one parent or a non-parent, ask your embassy and Indonesian immigration.
